UCR is pleased to offer again various fun-filled trips to explore and experience our Georgia rivers. Please save the dates and check back frequently for updates. Also note the dates that registration becomes available for each of the trips. Additional details for each trip will be provided upon registration and specific trip details one week prior to the trip date.
The fee for participating in one day paddle trips is $35 per boat (solo or tandem). $60 per boat for two day camping and paddling trips. Boating equipment is not provided and not included in the registration fee. If you need to rent equipment, please click here to see a list of local outfitters. These trips are intended for kayaks and canoes only - inflatable boats are not permitted.
April 4 - Flatwater Paddle on Lanier - Lula Bridge to Clarks Bridge (10 miles)
Leisure paddle on pristine section of the Chattahoochee as it enters Lake Lanier one mile below Lula Bridge. Registration opens March 6.
April 25-26 - Paddling and Camping in Upper Chattahoochee (HWY 255 to HWY 384)
For the experienced paddler and those who want to take their paddle skill up a notch. Whitewater boats recommended but not required. The Day 1 paddle of 6.2 miles will start at Hwy 255 where the water has smooth pools and class I rapids. Depending on the water level, the water can reach class III before our camping destination at Buck Shoals. We will travel through one of the most scenic areas of the upper Hooch, Smith Island. We will enjoy primitive camping at Buck Shoals on the sandy beach on the banks of the Chattahoochee River. Day 2 will start out at Buck Shoals and travel 3 miles down through class I-II rapids including Horseshoe Falls where the Soque River and Chattahoochee meet - ending at Hwy 384/ Duncan Bridge.Registration opens March 6.
June 6-7 - Introduction to Whitewater AND Camping/Paddling Adventure
Enjoy a weekend camping and paddling experience at a private cabin on the banks of the Upper Chattahoochee. There are several options available to make this trip memorable and fun. Registration opens April 3.
- June 6 (10am to 1pm) Intro to Whitewater: A Whitewater instructor is available for kayaking or canoeing paddlers who wish to learn basic Whitewater techniques.
- June 6 (starting at 2pm) – Intended for the Whitewater class to try out their new skills - or for our more seasoned paddlers - we will paddle a 5 mile stretch of Section III from Highway 115 Bridge to the cabin, our campsite. This is Class II-III and will include a pit-stop at Buck Shoals State Park.
- June 6 – After an enjoyable day of paddling, make plans to camp on the banks of the Chattahoochee at the private cabin.
- June 7: Day two, we will leave our campsite and paddle 5 miles on Section IV which is Class II, to Mossy Creek State Park
June 13 - Back to the Chattahoochee River Race and Festival

August 1 - Upper Chattahoochee Paddle – Section I (6 Miles)
Paddle Section I of the newly proposed Chattahoochee Canoe Trail. This is the most scenic and secluded section of the trail, beginning at Sautee Creek and taking out at Highway 255. This is 6 miles of mild class II. Registration opens June 26.
Sept 19 - Chestatee River (6 Miles)
Enjoy a beautiful fall day paddling the Chestatee from Appalachian Outfitters on Highway 60 to hwy 400. This is 6-miles of class I with beautiful scenery. Registration opens June 26.
Oct 30-Nov 1 - Annual McIntosh Reserve Camping and Paddling
An annual event with a scary new twist - Halloween! Canoe one of the longest stretches of the Upper Chattahoochee still untouched by bridges and river-front development on this 18-mile paddle from McIntosh Reserve in Carroll County to the U.S. 27 Bridge in Franklin. Registration opens June 26.
