On Saturday, May 6, 2017, we hosted a 3-mile family-friendly paddle trip and river celebration on the Chattahoochee as it flows through West Point, Georgia. The paddle will kick off at 5 p.m. (EST) at Hardley Creek Park and finish at the Downtown River Park in West Point where festivities will carry on from 6pm to 9pm.
A big thanks to the 110 paddlers who took part in Chattahoochee Riverkeeper’s (CRK) Sunset Paddle in West Point, Georgia. This turnout exceeded our expectations as did the attendance for the music and festivities afterwards at the Downtown River Park – over 300 people from the nearby community and as far away as Atlanta and north Florida!
Along with the good food, fun activities provided by our partners (Oxbow Meadows brought the live tortoise and king snake!) and music that had people dancing, the event also provided us with a great opportunity to raise awareness of the river, the importance of water stewardship and CRK’s outreach programs such as the West Point Lake Floating Classroom and Neighborhood Water Watch.
CVRR Paddle Trip Details
Before festivities start at the river park, join us for an evening paddle trip on the Chattahoochee River from Hardley Creek Park to the Downtown River Park in West Point.
Expect a leisurely two-hour paddle on flat water and the chance to explore a pristine and undeveloped stretch of the Chattahoochee River known as The Chattahoochee Valley Blueway Trail. Chattahoochee Riverkeeper (CRK) will provide a shuttle service beforehand from the City of West Point River Park to Hardley Creek Park, and when needed, hands-on guidance and help from staff and volunteers before, during and after the paddle trip.
