Tom\u00f3 meses de arduo trabajo, pero el Relevo lleg\u00f3 a su terminal sur el jueves 9 de diciembre de 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Con la ayuda de 33 organizaciones asociadas y cientos de voluntarios, los participantes llevaron el remo personalizado de sasafr\u00e1s, que sirvi\u00f3 como bast\u00f3n simb\u00f3lico del Relevo, a lo largo de todo el r\u00edo. Desafortunadamente, a lo largo de los segmentos superiores del Relevo, los signos de basura flotante y escombros hechos por el hombre eran demasiado visibles, a pesar de los mejores esfuerzos liderados por Tammy Bates, Gerente de Excursiones y Eventos de CRK, quien ha empoderado a m\u00e1s de 1,850 voluntarios para recolectar 50 toneladas. de basura solo en 2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEsperamos que el Relevo ayude a crear conciencia sobre los problemas que enfrenta esta \u00e1rea\u201d, dijo Bates. \u201cRecomiendo a todos que sean considerados cuando exploren el r\u00edo: no dejen rastro, pero tambi\u00e9n d\u00e9jenlo mejor de lo que lo encontraron. Si todos colaboran trayendo una bolsa de basura y recogiendo la basura, tendremos un impacto realmente positivo\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Sin embargo, no son solo los recreacionistas los responsables de la salud del r\u00edo. Viajando r\u00edo abajo, los participantes del Relevo vieron evidencia de industrias que dependen de las aguas de Chattahoochee. Las plantas de tratamiento de aguas residuales devuelven el agua tratada al r\u00edo en alrededor de 163 desag\u00fces a lo largo. La planta nuclear Farley de Alabama Power libera agua refrigerante en el r\u00edo cerca de Columbia. Los desechos t\u00f3xicos de cenizas de carb\u00f3n tienen sanguijuelas en las aguas subterr\u00e1neas cerca de Plant McDonough. Y los sedimentos de las operaciones de construcci\u00f3n y limpieza de terrenos siguen siendo el contaminante m\u00e1s frecuente en el r\u00edo. Las industrias a lo largo del r\u00edo a\u00fan tienen un largo camino por recorrer para minimizar sus impactos en el medio ambiente.<\/p>\n<p>El Relevo permiti\u00f3 al personal de CRK y a los socios participantes la oportunidad de combinar el trabajo con la recreaci\u00f3n mientras patrullaban tramos del r\u00edo que no se observan con frecuencia. A lo largo de la frontera entre Georgia y Alabama, el personal de CRK se sorprendi\u00f3 al ver c\u00f3mo las especies vegetales invasoras, como los jacintos, se hab\u00edan apoderado del r\u00edo.
