Despu\u00e9s de semanas de estar encerrado durante el inicio de la pandemia mundial, el director de Headwaters, Dale Caldwell, aprovech\u00f3 un hermoso d\u00eda de primavera para salir al lago Lanier, recolectar algunas muestras de agua y verificar la salud de esta importante v\u00eda fluvial.<\/p>\n

Esto es lo que vio:<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Despu\u00e9s de meses de abundantes lluvias en la regi\u00f3n, seguimos observando peligros para la navegaci\u00f3n en forma de grandes desechos vegetales en los canales de los r\u00edos Chattahoochee y Chestatee, y en el cuerpo principal del lago Lanier.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Con las fuertes lluvias tambi\u00e9n viene la basura de la escorrent\u00eda de las aguas pluviales. El flujo tridimensional y la disposici\u00f3n del terreno (sinuosidad del canal) hacen que la basura se acumule en puntos cr\u00edticos como el de estas fotos. CRK marcar\u00e1 el lugar en nuestro mapa interno para que sepamos d\u00f3nde llevar a cabo nuestros futuros eventos de limpieza como Sweep the Hooch.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Este sitio del Departamento de Transporte de Georgia en Cleveland Hwy. 129 parec\u00eda tener las mejores pr\u00e1cticas de gesti\u00f3n para prevenir la erosi\u00f3n y la sedimentaci\u00f3n en East Fork Little River y Lake Lanier. Regresamos al mismo sitio por carretera una semana despu\u00e9s y notamos una falla menor en las BMP, que informamos r\u00e1pidamente al GDOT, quien cooper\u00f3 en abordar la falla.<\/p>\n

Este desarrollo de viviendas unifamiliares demuestra c\u00f3mo incluso un sitio peque\u00f1o tiene el potencial de contaminar una v\u00eda fluvial cercana. Podemos ver que actualmente se ha instalado una cerca de cieno para contener los sedimentos expuestos, pero las rocas manchadas a lo largo del lago revelan que dichas protecciones no siempre fueron efectivas.<\/p>\n

Un nuevo muelle comunitario espera la construcci\u00f3n de varias casas en esta nueva subdivisi\u00f3n cerca de East Fork Little River. CRK ha estado monitoreando este sitio de construcci\u00f3n desde que comenz\u00f3 la limpieza hace m\u00e1s de un a\u00f1o.<\/p>\n

Una hermosa foto de la desembocadura del East Fork Little River. Con el nivel del lago a un pie sobre la piscina llena (1,072 pies sobre el nivel medio del mar), esta es una gran oportunidad para explorar partes del sistema del lago y el r\u00edo que de otra manera no ser\u00edan tan accesibles. Al explorar \u00e1reas como esta, nos mantenemos a velocidad de ralent\u00ed para minimizar o evitar la erosi\u00f3n debido a los impactos de las olas.<\/p>\n
