Join us aboard the West Point Lake Floating Classroom to learn about the history of the Middle Chattahoochee River and West Point Lake!

The cruise will feature insights from a number of local experts:

  • Bill Deutsch, author of Alabama Rivers: A Celebration and Challenge, retired Auburn University aquatic ecologist, and co-founder of the organization Alabama Water Watch, will enlighten us about how the Chattahoochee River has strongly influenced the human and natural history of both Georgia and Alabama.
  • Joe Cook, author of River Song and Chattahoochee River User’s Guide, will regale the audience with stories of his paddle adventures on the ‘Hooch.
  • And Randy Allen, Troup County Archivist, will tell the story of Joe Young, who, in an effort to save his beloved Pineland Farm, led opposition to West Point Lake in the 1960s.

You are welcome to bring your own food and beverages. Life jackets will be provided and are required to be worn at all times during the outing.
