On Indigenous Peoples’ Day (Monday, Oct. 13) you’re invited to attend this special screening of the 2024 documentary Bad River at Tara Atlanta, co-sponsored by Chattahoochee Riverkeeper, Emory Center for Native & Indigenous Studies, Paddle4Tomorrow, and HJacobs Docs.

Directed by Mary Mazzio, the film offers an inspiring and visually stunning chronicle of the Wisconsin-based Bad River Band and its battle to stop an oil pipeline from polluting Lake Superior, the largest freshwater resource in America.

Along the way we learn about the tribe’s ongoing fight for sovereignty and rights to its homeland.

It’s a powerful story of resilience and defiance — a lesson for everyone concerned about the environmental threats we’re facing today.

In the words of writer Bill McKibben, the film is “a powerful chronicle of some of the saddest chapters in American history, and a hopeful picture of the emerging possibilities for power in the crucial fights of our time.”

Following the 90-minute film will be a panel talkback by local environmental advocates. Tickets available aquí starting September 12.
