CRNRA Paddle Cleanup

Chattahoochee Riverkeeper is excited to host this paddle cleanup with the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area (CRNRA) as part of our Trash-Free Chattahoochee initiative on Saturday, August 22nd.

We will paddle a five-mile section from Garrard Landing in Roswell to the Island Ford Unit of the CRNRA. This section is mostly slow moving with some moderate riffles/shoals to navigate and perfect for experienced and beginner alike.

Specific trip details will be emailed to you the week prior to the trip date. Volunteers must provide their own kayak/canoe, paddle and coast guard approved noninflatable PFD, water and lunch/snacks. CRK has a limited number of sit-on-top kayaks to borrow and those can be reserved during registration as supplies last. Additional details will be provided in your confirmation email.

For planning purposes, there will be two separate instructions for those who are providing their own boats and those borrowing. People bringing their own boats will meet at the putin at 7:30am. Those borrowing will meet us at Island Ford at 8:30am. NOC will shuttle us from Island Ford back to the putin. Tips appreciated for the drivers. We should conclude by 1-2pm.

Plan to bring a lunch/snacks and we will stop mid-way for a break.

Registration is required to participate.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
All participants must be able to swim efficiently. All participants must be able to get in and out of a kayak easily (i.e. those with knee or back injuries may have difficulty). Paddling uses your core muscles, arms, and shoulders. Anyone with injuries in these areas may have difficulty. Please consult your physician if you are concerned about participating.

AGE REQUIREMENTS
If paddling solo, paddlers must be at least 15 years old. If paddling tandem, youth must be at least 10 years old and accompanied by an adult at least 21 years old.

SAFETY POLICIES
The paddle will be called off if there is a threat of severe thunderstorms/lightning OR if the river is running high due to rain or an upstream release of water from Buford Dam.
